    South Texas Blackbuck

In 2009 I was lucky enough to get a Blackbuck hunt for my birthday from my parents. I opened that gift in May and started researching Blackbuck hunts like a crazy person. After alot of looking around( before AAE.Com ) i found out that the later in the year you wait and the older the male the darker their hide gets so I decided to wait until late November to go on my hunt. It was the last weekend in November, 2009 when my hnt was scheduled and that Sunday felt like it would never come. On friday we went to our deer lease just outside of Bruni, Tx. Sitting in that blind watching the whitetail eat and come through the senderos was driving me insane. I was way past ready to get to the Red Rock Ranch. Well, after some more hunting and some cold beverages Sunday had finally showed its face. We packed up the lease and headed west to Cotulla, Tx. Pulling up to the gate was like standing at the gates to heaven when i saw the oryx greeting us as we drove up. My dad drove up to the ranch house and I saw the hunting jeeps and four wheelers and lodge. It looked just like a dream. Well today my dream would come true. The Blackbuck is and always will be my favorite exotic to hunt. The ranch does blind hunts and safari style hunt and i chose to go the safari route. we drove around for what felt like 2 hours seeing every animal the ranch had to offer. Finally we find the perfect Blackbuck and i get ready to take the shot. As soon as i pull the gun up to look into the scope the herd of blackbuck starts running. The chase was on! we chased them over at least 100 acres and finally got into a good position for me to take a shot. I took a 160 yard shot at a trotting blackbuck and he went down. This day will be one that i remember for the rest of my life. Cheers to the next hunt. anyone else shoot a blackbuck doe or buck?

    blackbuck

I shot a nice blackbuck a couple years ago, but this year I had a bad experience with one. I had a monster 4 curl buck at 22 yards. I thought I made a perfect shot (with my bow) he hunched and ran off. I went down to track it and found the arrow bone dry! I was shocked...There was a blod trail, but I figured I just knicked him. I came home and did some research and found that you can make a perfect pass thru and have a dry arrow! uh oh...I learned a big lesson!

Heartbreaker, Chase! I've lost 1 deer bowhunting (my first buck) on our old place outside of San Angelo. Thinking back to it, I still get the same feeling in my stomach...gut wrenching. Mine was due to poor shot placement and 100% operator error. You live and you learn, I suppose. Where do you do most of your hunting?
