Texas Hunt Russian Boar Story

Still Wednesday an hour before dark, Back with Nan back on the stand, we seen a couple nice rams, but she was not interested, she had visions of one and was determined to see it again.
The clouds worsened, and it got blacker and windier, Lightning was in the distance over the east mountain tops.
Well her luck was not there, it had gotten too dark to see, for her and she was no longer comfortable hunting.
We agreed to call it quits and just sat there. The wind had turned real cool and was really strong now, Felt so good, the lightning was above us now and we were getting a sprinkle or two here & there. Looks like we should autta think of heading to cover.
Just then the guide says, did you see that Hog?, I supposed they were funnin me, “No I did not you guys are nuts”, Then Nan says “no I seen something too”.
There was a clearing down the canyon over 100 yards out and it ran another 50 yards then back to brush.
I won't dispute them & I had no Gun, No Light, it was dark. & storming.
Then I see Nan's 257 Weatherby Mag in her lap. She had won it last Sept at an NRA Banq., we scoped it with a Leopold and cut the stock down for her and ended up with a trigger job free, gunsmith had done the wrong Weatherby, Sweet, real light pull.
I like shooting that gun, but have to push my shoulder into it to keep from getting the scope recoil in the forehead.
I had promised her that I would not Blooddy or hunt w/ her gun till she drew first blood with it, only fair.

Well There I was and there it was, and they had seen a Hog, I had never had a chance to shoot one before now !! She offered her gun..

I love you Baby !! She said go for it !!
I got the gun up and had some good contrast mid pasture in the lighter grass, but no Hog.

We sat a while longer, there was a deep ravine alongside the pasture down there and it snaked around in front of us. But the gut pile was on the other side of us on the hillside.

Quit chattering there he was again, I asked about shot placement, Tom said ear was best, shoulder OK, but he said they’re all destructive pests just hit em anywhere can't be picky, when yer cleaning house. I got on him, but he was standing directly behind a tree I only had a couple of inches of hog either side of it, no shot.. Then he bolted back to the ravine.
Still getting nasty lots of lightning and sprinkling a lil harder we called it quits. Put Nan's scope cover on and handed her gun back, stood to leave and the guide says, "Is that a branch in the wind or is he back?"
Worth a peek, got the gun back up and surprised I could still make anything out in the scope. Wow !! He was back and I had a good silhouette even though it was 113 yards out in the dark. (We ranged it the next Am in the light)...BOOOMMMM.. all I could see was bright muzzle flash. Guide had a good spotting scope, Tom said "He's still there and down What a shot!” turned that Hog off like a light switch, Mann I was exited my first Hog, In the dark with my wife's gun, and we weren't even Hog hunting. We hurried down to the truck, drove up the canyon and there he was in the lights, I had shot a real nice European wild boar, mostly Russian. Guide explained Ferrell Hogs can't live there all rock & Mountain no flat land and nothing much to eat. I had preferred to hunt a Russian anyways; I sure was twice Blessed Today.
The Next Morning the ranch owner had said that several hunters had seen him in the past 4 weeks, a couple even took shots but none had any success.
The light rain did end quickly and we had high winds and lightning, Rain never dropped into the canyons.
We found out next day they had tornado & a lot ranches property damaged bad just 1 1/2 hrs east
