Ibex Hunt

June Texas IBEX story
We had booked hunts at 3 ranches this year to make our hunts a little more variety and exiting.
The Plan
Nan will hunt Black buck and Corsican ram'
I will hunt Aoudad and Ibex
I bought a critter light for nite hog hunt if time permitted.
Rocky Top Ranch, where we hunted Ram last year.
We arrived the afternoon prior our Thursday hunts at two other ranches.
Guide and rancher suggested we hunt the afternoon for Ram and Ibex.
He had a seen a great Ibex and said he has only seen it once the entire time it had been on the ranch, hoping for the best of luck I took my pistol and Nan & I with the guide went huntin 4PM HOT!!!!
after about an hour or so Nan had spotted a real nice Corsican, it seemed to be a very good size and she kinda put her notion together that she wouldn't settle for anything less let alone any other type of ram.
We had ran across him a few times but never offered a shot. We settled in on a cliff stand overlooking a clearing on the mountain side and a clearing in the canyon pasture below and decided to wait things out.
A couple hours later I got a glimpse of a black body crossing through the mesquite and gone like a ghost. I assumed it was probably a black Hawaiian Ram we had seen earlier.
Another 5 minutes both Nan & the guide at the same time said there’s an Ibex! I can’t see nuttin, they must be nuts.
Another 5 minutes, There he is again they say, Now I can see a tail and half an A...ummm.. Hind Quarter. They say it’s the big Ibex, I was in a bad position, just thick Mesquite, can’t see anything. We watched for quite a while when all of a sudden he broke from the shade and was heading across the front of the clearing towards the brush on the other side.
Bring my S&W 460 XVR on line and get him in the scope, guide says 85 yards and gaining, then what luck he stopped a moment and Boommm, the pistol sang my favorite tune, all 4 legs buckled and he staggered back and forth and just when I thought he was down, he mustered a full trot dead away into the brush, I made a second shot in front of his thigh towards his chest and he disappeared.
I can't believe my fortune the fleeting ghost appeared just for me to get acquainted... Man the guide says, "that pistol is the loudest thing I ever heard,"
I smiled and says Yup kinda grows on ya don't it .. He said "What" LOL
we went down the Mt and into the mesquite to collect my prize. What a beautiful animal.
It's a Persian Ibex, and in fact when he scored it and looked it up. So far in the record book it is in the top 5 rifle and currently holds #1 for Pistol.. Wahhh Hooo
lets hope in the next 6 months no one takes that spot away, That would be awesome to be in the record book at #1
We dressed him on the side of the draw across from the stand hoping to do some hog hunting late tonight, and use this as bait.
The weather was changing it was getting black and breezy, still hotter than the dickens.
We drove the Ibex down to the ranch cooler and went back to join Nan on the mountain stand. To continue her Ram hunt.

Just got the great news from Thompson Temple, My Ibex Made Record of Exotics Number One for 2010..
Having a number one in the record book is exiting beyond belief.
We Knew it was up there just not sure it would hold the spot the rest of that year.
Thompson told me the ROE books this year are paper back and much more affordable Than in the past. He is also looking into an on line Magazine type deal.
Hunt Often, Shoot Straight & remember to have a great time.
